David Clayton-Thomas leads on vocals, with arrangements by Al Kooper, Dick Halligan, and Fred Lipsius, and production by James William Guercio. The album contains three Top 5 singles: Spinning Wheel, You've Made Me So Very Happy, and And When I Die, alongside the Erik Satie variations that bookend the record and the sprawling 12-minute Blues – Part II. Gatefold sleeve with cover art by Timothy Quay and interior design by Bob Cato and John Berg. Canadian Columbia pressing with a noted label variation — Side 1 has black text along the bottom, Side 2 has white text; Side 2 label reads "Manufactured by Columbia Records of Canada, Ltd." while the rear jacket reads "Manufactured by Columbia Records / CBS, Inc."
