One of the most celebrated jazz reissue compilations of the past decade — BBE's J Jazz series opened the door to a generation of listeners discovering the extraordinary depth of Japanese modern jazz from the late 1960s through the early 1980s. Compiled by Tony Higgins and Mike Peden, this triple LP draws from rare and obscure Japanese labels including ALM, Union, Tachibana, Johnny's Disk, Trio, Street Noise, Whynot, Kiva, VAP, and Overseas Records — many of which had never been licensed outside Japan. Twelve tracks spanning modal jazz, jazz-funk, Latin jazz, and jazzdance: from the spiritual intensity of Koichi Matsukaze Trio's Earth Mother to the rare Terumasa Hino / Reggie Workman collaboration Ode To Workman. Mastered by Shawn Joseph at Optimum Mastering; lacquer cut by Rhys Crouch; pressed by Pallas (Germany). Includes obi strip. Factory sealed.
