A well-curated eight-track survey of Steely Dan’s peak MCA/ABC period, drawing from Countdown To Ecstasy, Katy Lied, The Royal Scam, Aja, Gaucho, and the FM soundtrack. Mastered at Masterdisc, New York City by Bob Ludwig. Produced by Gary Katz — Steely Dan’s producer across their entire ABC/MCA run from Can’t Buy A Thrill (1972) through Gaucho (1980), whose production is inseparable from the band’s sonic identity. All tracks written by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. The selection leans toward the jazz-inflected later catalogue: Deacon Blues and Babylon Sisters (both from Aja and Gaucho respectively) are among the longest and most harmonically complex tracks Steely Dan recorded; FM is the title track from the 1978 film soundtrack, a top-twenty hit that is often absent from standard best-of compilations. NM vinyl; VG+ sleeve.
