Japan initial first release of one of the defining albums of heavy metal — Paranoid contains War Pigs, Iron Man, Paranoid, Planet Caravan, Hand Of Doom, and Fairies Wear Boots across eight tracks that essentially invented the genre. Produced by Rodger Bain; written entirely by Iommi, Osbourne, Butler, and Ward. Manufactured by Nippon Phonogram Co. Ltd., Tokyo on the generic blue Philips label (SFX-7266). The gatefold sleeve features a white interior with tracklist and durations in English, Japanese liner notes by Tsuneo O’Mori, and English lyrics. Note: the Vertigo swirl symbol appears as a homage on this release; the distributing label is Philips/Nippon Phonogram. The vinyl is black translucent when held to a strong light source.

Notes & Comments

Japan initial first release. Comes with an obi strip with ¥1,950 printed on it as well as on the back of the jacket. The record company, Nippon Phonogram Co. Ltd., Tokyo, credits Philips as the label for it features the generic blue label on the vinyl & reads SFX-7266 (6360 011.1) Made in Japan. Like the original UK version this also comes in a gatefold sleeve, however instead of the tracklist/credits being printed over a group photo background, the Japanese release features a white background with the track list and durations in English, liner notes in Japanese by Tsuneo O' Mori along with the English lyrics(obviously transcribed by ear due to many mistakes) and a "Do It Rock" advertisement insert sheet with monochrome photos of album covers from other artists sold by Nippon Phonogram. There is a Vertigo symbol on the obi as an homage/respect, this is not the "label" Nippon Phonogram was necessarily distributing The record itself is black translucent when looking with a strong light source.

VG+ vinyl with light surface wear; plays exceptionally clean with minimal noise—typical high-quality Japanese pressing. VG+ sleeve with minor edge/storage wear, obi strip and inner liner missing, small split at top of cover. Original Japanese Philips issue (SFX-7266) manufactured by Nippon Phonogram. Labels clean with light spindle marks. Excellent collector and listening copy of this classic Sabbath album.
