The 1983 UK Blue Moon Records reissue of Culture’s landmark 1977 roots reggae album — widely regarded as one of the greatest reggae records ever made and a cornerstone of the roots movement. Originally released on Joe Gibbs Music in 1977, the album’s prophetic title (July 7, 1977 — 7/7/77 — was anticipated as a day of reckoning in Rastafarian belief) gave it an almost mythological status before it even shipped. Produced and arranged by Joe Gibbs and Errol Thompson (the legendary Mighty Two production duo). An exceptional session: Sly Dunbar on drums, Robbie Shakespeare on bass, Tommy McCook on tenor saxophone, Bobby Ellis on trumpet, Vin Gordon on trombone, Bingy Bunny and Lennox Gordon on guitars, Harold Butler, Errol Nelson, and Franklyn “Bubbler” Waul on keyboards, Herman Marquis on alto saxophone, Uziah “Stickey” Thompson on percussion, Lloyd Parks on bass. Blue Moon Records / Magnum Force Company pressing (1983). VG+/VG+ — a strong copy of a highly sought reissue.
