One of the fastest-selling comedy albums in history — The First Family was released in October 1962 and sold over one million copies in its first two weeks, eventually moving more than seven million copies worldwide. Written and produced by Bob Booker and Earle Doud, the album presents a gentle, affectionate satirical portrait of the Kennedy White House: JFK impressionist Vaughn Meader stars as the President, with Naomi Brossart as Jackie, Norma Macmillan as daughter Caroline, and a full supporting cast. Recorded in mono and stereo at Fine Recording Studios, New York City, on October 22, 1962 — just as the Cuban Missile Crisis was reaching its peak. Seventeen scenes across two acts, from a White House tour and a press conference to bedtime stories and a family party. The album's cultural moment ended abruptly on November 22, 1963; surviving copies in strong condition are a genuine piece of American comedy history.
