Slow Train Coming (1979) marked Dylan’s celebrated gospel turn — his first explicitly Christian album, recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, Alabama, and released to considerable controversy and commercial success. Gotta Serve Somebody won the Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance. The production team is exceptional: Jerry Wexler (the Atlantic Records producer behind Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and Led Zeppelin’s Atlantic deal) and Barry Beckett (Muscle Shoals session keyboardist and house producer). On guitar: a pre-superstardom Mark Knopfler, recorded just months before Dire Straits broke globally with Sultans of Swing. Drums by Pick Withers (also of Dire Straits); bass by Tim Drummond; horns by the Muscle Shoals Horns, arranged by Harrison Calloway; background vocals by Carolyn Dennis, Helena Springs, and Regina Havis. Canadian Columbia pressing, pressed at the Columbia Records plant in Don Mills, Ontario. Released with printed inner credit/photo sleeve. VG+ vinyl with clean gloss and light handling only; VG+ sleeve with minor shelf/edge wear. Visual grading only; not play tested.
