Earl Grant was one of the most commercially successful organ and piano instrumentalists of the late 1950s and early 1960s — a multi-instrumentalist whose smooth, lounge-jazz style made him a fixture on Decca and a crossover draw between jazz, easy listening, and the supper club circuit. Grant played both organ and piano across his recordings, often doubling on both instruments; his technical fluency and warm melodic approach gave his interpretations an immediately recognizable quality. Ebb Tide (B1) was his signature recording and biggest hit — it reached #7 on the Billboard pop chart in 1961 and defined the mood-music organ sound of the era. The programme here is a twelve-track collection of well-chosen standards: Stormy Weather (A1), Bewitched (A2), Misty (B4 — written by Erroll Garner in 1954, one of the most recorded jazz standards of the 20th century), Deep Purple (B3), My Foolish Heart (B2), and the Theme From Exodus (B6 — written by Ernest Gold, Academy Award for Best Original Score 1960). Pressed at the Decca Records Pressing Plant, Pinckneyville, Illinois. Vinyl VG+ in great shape. Cover G+: water damage present — clearly disclosed; reflected in sleeve grade.
