Factory sealed. France Joli is a Montréal-born francophone pop and disco artist who had a significant international hit with Come To Me (1979) at age 16 — one of the defining Canadian disco singles of the era. Attitude (1983) is her Epic-era album, produced at the height of the post-disco synth-pop moment by one of the most important production teams in the history of electronic dance music. Executive-produced by Giorgio Moroder — the architect of Donna Summer’s disco sound (I Feel Love, Hot Stuff, Last Dance), pioneer of the synthesizer-driven production aesthetic that defined late-1970s and early-1980s dance music, and later responsible for the Flashdance and Top Gun soundtracks. Produced by Pete Bellotte, Moroder’s long-term creative partner and co-writer on virtually the entire Donna Summer catalogue. The Moroder/Bellotte team applying their Musicland Studio sensibility to a Canadian pop-disco artist in 1983 is a genuinely distinctive production credit. Arranged, performed (bass, guitar, synthesizers including JP-8, Prophet, Vocoder, and Linn drum) by Richie Zito, the Los Angeles session guitarist and producer who worked extensively with Heart and Eddie Money. Synthesizer programming (PPG Wave, JP-8, Prophet, OBX) by John Philip Shenale (later a string arranger and composer for Tori Amos). Simmons electronic drum programming by John Gilston; saxophone by Gary Herbig; recorded and mixed by Brian Reeves. Assistant engineers include Matt Forger, a key CBS/Epic Los Angeles studio engineer who also worked on Rebbie Jackson’s Centipede in the same period. Management by Weisner-DeMann Entertainment, the firm that also managed Michael Jackson during the Off The Wall and Thriller era. The Pips (Gladys Knight’s Pips) appear courtesy of CBS Records.
