Canadian MCA reissue of Thorogood’s debut, originally released on Rounder Records in 1977 — the record that established his raw, slide-heavy take on Chicago and Delta blues as one of the most recognizable sounds in American roots rock. George Thorogood (lead guitar, slide guitar, vocals) built his reputation as a live act of extraordinary intensity before this debut broke through; the band’s stripped-back power trio approach — with Jeff Simon (drums) and Michael Levine (bass) — frames Thorogood’s slide work in a direct, unadorned setting that remains the template for his entire catalogue. Produced by Danny Lipman; engineered by Joe Chiccarelli — Chiccarelli went on to become one of the most respected producers and engineers in alternative and indie rock, with credits including Frank Zappa, The White Stripes, Morrissey, Elton John, and Beck. The tracklist draws heavily from Chicago blues and early rock’n’roll covers: I’m Ready (A2 — Willie Dixon), Howlin’ For My Darlin’ (A4 — Howlin’ Wolf), Nadine (B1 — Chuck Berry), You’re Gonna Miss Me (B3 — Lightnin’ Hopkins). Vinyl Near Mint; sleeve VG+ with some spine wear.
