A posthumously significant 2xLP live compilation — Harry Chapin died in a car accident in July 1981, and this 1979 double album captures his live storytelling at its most expansive across sixteen tracks spanning his full catalogue. Chapin was among the most committed social activist musicians of the 1970s: a co-founder of World Hunger Year (now WhyHunger) and a tireless advocate whose work led to the creation of the Presidential Commission on World Hunger; he donated a third of his concert income to charity and performed over 200 benefit concerts a year. The music reflects that commitment — Flowers Are Red (C2), The Day They Closed The Factory Down (A3), and Poor Damned Fool (C1) are among his most pointed narrative songs. Corey’s Coming (D3, 8:08) closes Side D as an extended centrepiece. Arranged by Steve Chapin (Harry’s brother, keyboards and vocals); recorded and mixed by Jack Malken and Michael Barry; mixed at Secret Sound; mastered at Masterdisk by Dave Crawford; lacquer cut and mastered at the Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Don Mills, Ontario — a significant Canadian pressing facility.
