Janis Ian is the American singer-songwriter best known for At Seventeen (1975) — which won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female, in 1976 and remains one of the most lyrically precise and emotionally resonant songs of the 1970s singer-songwriter era. Night Rains (1979) is a later Columbia album recorded in the period when late-1970s pop and disco crossover pressures were reshaping the singer-songwriter landscape. The album includes Fly Too High (A2) — which appeared on the soundtrack to Alan Parker’s Fame (1980) and charted in the UK — and Here Comes The Night (Theme from “The Bell Jar”) (A5), written for the film adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s novel. White promo labels, Columbia/CBS pressing (℗ 1979 CBS Inc.). NM vinyl; VG sleeve.
