This is the initial-run first pressing (39mm pressing ring; no Sheffield Lab Matrix in the runout) — the pressing configuration collectors identify as the earliest US copies. Los Angeles area promo distribution copy: gold circular promo stamp on bottom left front cover (“Promotional Copy Not For Sale”) and promo sticker on upper right (“Contains the Hit Song: (Just Like) Starting Over GHS 2001”). First US pressing with the incorrect track order on back cover — a well-documented pressing error on the initial run, subsequently corrected. Includes inner lyric sleeve. Released 17 November 1980 — three weeks before John Lennon was killed on 8 December 1980; the album won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1981, one of the most charged posthumous Grammy outcomes in the award’s history. Produced by Jack Douglas and John Lennon & Yoko Ono — Douglas was a significant New York rock producer whose credits include Aerosmith (Toys In The Attic, Rocks) and Alice Cooper.
