Johnny Lee is the Texas country singer whose Lookin’ For Love (1980) — from the Urban Cowboy soundtrack — reached #1 on the country charts and #5 pop, becoming one of the defining crossover country songs of its era. Hey Bartender (1983) is a later Full Moon album produced by Jimmy Bowen — the Nashville producer and executive who ran MCA Nashville, Warner Bros. Nashville, and Capitol Nashville across the 1980s and whose production credits include Hank Williams Jr., Conway Twitty, Crystal Gayle, Waylon Jennings, and Kenny Rogers; Bowen was one of the dominant forces in commercial country production of the decade. The tracklist is covers-heavy and oriented toward recognizable material: Blue Monday and I’m In Love Again (both Fats Domino), You Really Got A Hold On Me (Smokey Robinson and the Miracles), and I’ll Have To Say I Love You In A Song (Jim Croce) sit alongside original material.
