The film adaptation of Lionel Bart’s 1960 West End and Broadway musical, itself based on Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist (1838). Music and lyrics by Lionel Bart — one of the most significant figures in British musical theatre, whose Oliver! ran for 2,618 performances in its original London production and became the first British musical to win the Tony Award for Best Musical (1962). Arranged and conducted by Johnny Green — a veteran Hollywood music director and composer whose career at MGM spanned decades; Green won five Academy Awards for music direction, including for Easter Parade (1948), An American in Paris (1951), and West Side Story (1961); his arrangement and conducting work here earned him the Oscar for Best Score Adaptation. Starring Ron Moody as Fagin, Oliver Reed as Bill Sikes, Shani Wallis as Nancy, and child actor Mark Lester as Oliver. Canadian RCA Victor Company Ltd. pressing; gatefold sleeve; runouts etched.
