Canadian Quality Records pressing of the third album by Lucifer’s Friend — the Hamburg-based hard rock and progressive group whose catalogue has become increasingly collectible among fans of early 1970s European heavy rock. The band’s lineup here features John Lawton on vocals — a powerful British vocalist who would go on to replace David Byron in Uriah Heep in 1976, appearing on Firefly (1977), Innocent Victim (1977), Fallen Angel (1978), and Conquest (1980) before departing; his operatic, high-range delivery was well-suited to both Lucifer’s Friend’s progressive textures and Uriah Heep’s anthemic hard rock. Keyboards by Peter Hecht — piano, organ, Mellotron, Moog synthesizer, and Fender Rhodes; the album’s arrangements balance heavy rock with brass, choir (The Starlets), and soprano saxophone (Herb Geller), giving it a broader orchestral character than the debut. Produced by Dieter Horns, Peter Hecht, and Peter Hesslein; recorded and mixed January–February 1973 at Windrose-Dumont-Time Studios, Hamburg; lacquer cut at Phonodisc GmbH; pressed by Quality Records Limited, Canada; distributed by London Records of Canada. Released on the iconic Vertigo “UFO” swirl label — among the most sought-after label variants in progressive and hard rock collecting. Vinyl visually NM; very small amount of wear on the bottom of the outer sleeve, otherwise near perfect.
