A rare and beautifully preserved Canadian Elektra pressing of an early 1970s Canadian hard rock and proto-AOR record with exceptional collector presentation. Original factory cellophane still attached. Painter are a Vancouver-based Canadian hard rock band whose self-titled debut on Elektra is the sought-after collector copy — Canadian hard rock on Elektra from this era has genuine demand among Canadian rock enthusiasts and Pacific Northwest rock collectors. West Coast Woman (A1) was a Canadian regional hit and remains the band’s best-known track. Produced by Dan Lowe (who also plays lead guitar on the record); engineered by Jim Gaines — who went on to engineer and produce for Santana and to engineer Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Couldn’t Stand The Weather and Soul To Soul; a significant Pacific Northwest and roots rock studio figure. Recorded at Kaye-Smith Studios, Seattle, WA — the premier Pacific Northwest recording facility of the 1970s, founded by Danny Kaye and Dinah Shore, and used by Heart, among many others. The band: Doran Beattie (lead vocals), Dan Lowe (lead guitar), Barry Allen (rhythm guitar, vocals), Wayne Morice (bass, vocals), Bob Ego (drums). Exceptionally clean NM/NM presentation throughout with strong glossy vinyl surfaces and stunning vintage cover. An excellent early Canadian hard rock and proto-AOR collector piece — scarce in this condition with cellophane intact.
