Produced and arranged by George Martin — the Beatles’ producer and one of the most important figures in the history of recorded music — with engineering by Geoff Emerick, the Beatles’ recording engineer from Revolver onwards, four-time Grammy Award winner, and the definitive sonic architect of the Abbey Road sessions. The Martin/Emerick reunion on a 1983 McCartney solo album is a direct line back to the creative team that defined the Beatles’ studio legacy. The lead single Say Say Say is a McCartney/Michael Jackson duet — recorded at the height of Thriller’s commercial dominance — that reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks, one of the most successful duets in pop history. Michael Jackson performs on the record (courtesy of CBS); publishing credits include Mijac Music, Jackson’s own publishing company. The guest roster further includes Ringo Starr (courtesy of RCA), Stanley Clarke (the jazz fusion bassist, courtesy of CBS), Andy Mackay (Roxy Music saxophonist, courtesy of Polydor), Eric Stewart (10cc co-founder), Steve Gadd (one of the most recorded session drummers in history, credited on 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover and hundreds of major recordings), and Linda McCartney (performer and cover photographer).
