The follow-up to Tug Of War and the second consecutive McCartney album produced by George Martin — reuniting the composer with his Beatles producer for what would prove to be their last full studio collaboration. Engineered again by Geoff Emerick (assistant Jon Jacobs), the same team that made Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s, and Abbey Road. The guest roster is exceptional: Michael Jackson appears on two tracks — Say Say Say (the US #1 single, and the commercial peak of the McCartney/Jackson partnership) and The Man — both courtesy of Epic/CBS. Ringo Starr performs (courtesy of RCA), making this one of the few post-Beatles recordings with two former bandmates on the same album. Steve Gadd plays drums — the session legend behind Paul Simon’s 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover, Steely Dan’s Aja, and Eric Clapton’s Slowhand. Stanley Clarke contributes on bass (courtesy of Epic); Andy Mackay of Roxy Music plays saxophone (courtesy of Polydor). Eric Stewart and Linda McCartney also perform.
