Tug Of War (1982) is widely considered McCartney’s strongest post-Beatles solo album — and its production pedigree is the reason. Produced and arranged by George Martin, his first full McCartney production since the Beatles disbanded, reuniting the composer with the producer who shaped the band’s entire studio legacy. Engineered by Geoff Emerick, the recording engineer behind Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s, and Abbey Road, and McCartney’s most trusted studio collaborator outside the band. Recorded in Montserrat and England; mixed digitally. The album includes two duets with Stevie Wonder: What’s That You’re Doing? (6:21) and Ebony And Ivory (US #1). Backing vocals by Eric Stewart (co-founder of 10cc). Cover coordination by Hipgnosis — Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Powell’s design studio behind the visual identity of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Genesis — with cover painting by Brian Clarke and photography by Linda McCartney. US Columbia pressing at the Terre Haute plant (“T” plant ID in runouts); mastered at Customatrix by John Golden; lacquer cut at Columbia Mastering by Joe Gastwirt. Lyrics dust sleeve included.
