The debut album from John Lydon's post-Sex Pistols project — and one of the most radical reinventions in post-punk history. Released just over a year after the Pistols' dissolution, First Issue announced PiL as something entirely new: dub-influenced bass, abrasive guitar from Keith Levene, and Lydon's voice freed from punk's constraints. Theme opens the album at over nine minutes; Religion I & II, Annalisa, Public Image, and the sprawling Fodderstompf follow. The sleeve is designed to resemble a glossy magazine — hence "First Issue" — with a hard card colour inner sleeve featuring photos. Sleeve concept by Dennis Morris and Terry Jones; photography by Dennis Morris; sleeve design by Zebulon. Pressed at CBS Pressing Plant, Aston Clinton. Original UK Virgin pressing (V 2114 on labels; V2114 on jacket).
