PiL’s third album and arguably their most radical — The Flowers Of Romance strips away bass and guitar almost entirely, leaving John Lydon’s voice and Keith Levene’s percussion-driven compositions to fill the space. The result is one of the most uncompromising and genuinely strange records in post-punk history: tribal rhythms, found sounds, violin, and Lydon at his most confrontational. Written by Levene and Lydon (with Martin Atkins on three tracks), produced by Public Image Limited. US Warner Bros. pressing, Winchester plant (late ‘70s/early ‘80s WB label design: light grey with horizontal lines, full-colour WB shield logo, rim text around full perimeter). Outer sleeve opens at the top rather than the right side. Includes original inner sleeve with lyrics.
