Factory sealed. Rebbie Jackson’s debut album — and the lead track, Centipede, was written and produced by Michael Jackson at the peak of his commercial power, one year after Thriller became the best-selling album in history. Michael appears on backing vocals, making this a documented MJ vocal performance outside his own catalogue. Produced for MJJ Productions, Inc. Centipede reached #24 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the R&B chart. The remainder of the album (A3–B4) was produced by Wayne Henderson — co-founder of The Crusaders, the jazz-funk group whose influence on 1970s R&B is foundational — with additional production by Randy Jackson and Tito Jackson (both courtesy of Epic Records). Guest appearances by Michael, Tito, and Randy Jackson. Leon “Ndugu” Chancler plays drums — the session drummer on Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean and a key figure in the Los Angeles session community (courtesy of MCA Records). Mixed primarily by Matt Forger, one of Michael Jackson’s core studio engineers, who worked extensively on Thriller and Bad. Executive produced by Larkin Arnold, Columbia Records’ R&B A&R chief who signed Earth, Wind & Fire. Photography by Matthew Rolston.
