Cornerstone (1979) was Styx’s commercial peak — the album that delivered Babe, their first US #1 single, written by Dennis DeYoung for his wife. The record balances the band’s symphonic rock tendencies (Lights, Borrowed Time) with acoustic textures (Boat On The River, with Tommy Shaw on mandolin) and the melodic arena rock that made them one of the best-selling acts of the era. Produced by Styx. Recorded at Pumpkin Studios. Self-produced. Art direction and design by Mick Haggerty (the designer behind Hall & Oates’ Big Bam Boom, among many other iconic 1970s–80s rock sleeves). Photography by Aaron Rapoport. Canadian pressing manufactured and distributed by A&M Records Of Canada Limited; lacquer cut at The Lacquer Channel Limited, Toronto. Released in a distinctive triptych sleeve that opens at the back, with a custom cardboard inner sleeve. Label variant: single small pressing ring on the labels (distinguishes this pressing from related variants with one large or two pressing rings). Spine reads “Printed In U.S.A.” Light signs of careful play on vinyl; minor shelf/edge wear to sleeve. VG+/VG+.
