The transitional album between Supertramp’s prog-rock period and their Breakfast In America commercial peak — and the record that contains Give A Little Bit (A1, US #15), one of their most enduring songs. Produced by Supertramp themselves — self-production at this level reflects the band’s full creative autonomy by 1977. Mixed by Geoff Emerick — the Beatles’ recording engineer for Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Abbey Road; his involvement as mixing engineer here is a direct line from the most celebrated studio records of the 1960s to Supertramp’s meticulous studio approach. Recorded by Peter Henderson at Record Plant, Los Angeles and Caribou Ranch, Colorado. Orchestral arrangements by Michel Colombier. Lacquer cut at J.A.M.F. (Canadian facility, confirmed by Ever Reddy logo on sleeve). Photography by Bob Seidemann — the rock photographer who shot the Blind Faith album cover and worked extensively with the Grateful Dead. Cardboard inner lyrics sleeve included. The band: Rick Davies (vocals, keyboards), Roger Hodgson (vocals, keyboards, guitar), John Helliwell (wind instruments, vocals), Dougie Thomson (bass), Bob C. Benberg (drums). Fool’s Overture (B3, 10:51) closes the album as an epic prog suite. Canadian A&M Records of Canada pressing. Vinyl Near Mint; sleeve VG+ with some wear.
