The Bongos were a Hoboken, New Jersey band and a key part of the fertile early-1980s Hoboken scene that produced the Feelies, the dB’s, and other foundational American independent acts. Numbers With Wings (1983) is their major-label RCA debut — a five-track mini-album produced by Richard Gottehrer, one of the most significant figures in American new wave and power pop. Gottehrer co-founded Sire Records with Seymour Stein, co-wrote My Boyfriend’s Back, Hang On Sloopy, and I Want Candy, and produced Blondie’s early albums and the Go-Go’s Beauty And The Beat; his production of The Bongos is entirely consistent with that lineage. Mastered at Sterling Sound, NYC by Greg Calbi — a Sterling Sound engineer whose credits include Bruce Springsteen and Talking Heads. Recorded and mixed by John Jansen at Skyline Studios, NYC. The lineup: Richard Barone (vocals and guitar, primary songwriter), James Mastro (guitar and vocals, co-writer), Rob Norris (bass and vocals), and Frank Giannini (drums and percussion). Reissued on CD in 2008. Distributed in Canada by RCA Inc. Sealed — vinyl presumed Mint/unplayed; punch hole on sleeve as noted. Photos available upon request.
