Original 1975 US Epic pressing — VG+/VG. Terre Haute pressing plant; “Tl” etchings in the runout; classic orange Epic labels. One of the most important proto-punk records ever made: the Dictators’ debut is a raw, street-smart blast of hard rock attitude that predates and directly anticipates the New York punk explosion. Produced by Sandy Pearlman and Murray Krugman — Pearlman being the manager and producer of Blue Öyster Cult (Don’t Fear The Reaper, Tyranny And Mutation, Secret Treaties) and the producer of The Clash’s Give ‘Em Enough Rope (1978); his involvement here is the direct creative link between BÖC’s intellectual heavy rock and the emerging New York punk scene. Recorded at CBS Studios, New York; mixed at the Record Plant, New York; mastered at the Cutting Room, New York by Greg Calbi — a long-tenured mastering engineer whose credits include Bruce Springsteen and LCD Soundsystem. Artwork by Gerard Huerta — the typographer who designed the original AC/DC lightning bolt logo and the Boston logo. Front cover photography by David Gahr. The band: Andy Shernoff (bass, vocals, songwriter — a central figure in the New York punk ecosystem, later a collaborator with Dee Dee Ramone), Ross The Boss (lead guitar — later a founding member of Manowar), Handsome Dick Manitoba (vocals, listed as “Secret Weapon” — who became the band’s frontman and a New York rock institution). Vinyl grades VG+ with light play wear; plays well. Sleeve grades VG with ring wear and sticker damage; solid overall. Initial pressing includes photo inner sleeve.
