Twelve tracks drawn entirely from The Kinks’ RCA period (1971–1976) — the theatrical, concept-album era that produced Muswell Hillbillies, Everybody In Show-Biz, Preservation, and Soap Opera. Written, produced, and arranged entirely by Ray Davies, this compilation captures the wry, English character-study songwriting that set The Kinks apart from their contemporaries during this period. Highlights: the wistful six-minute title track Celluloid Heroes (6:19), the sardonic 20th Century Man (5:02), the music-hall stomp of Muswell Hillbilly, and the elegiac Sitting In My Hotel. Mastered at McClear Place, Toronto (identified from the “TX” runout etch). Canadian RCA Inc. pressing; 1981 reissue on RCA’s AYL1 “Best Buy” budget series — previously released as AFL1-1743. Recorded in London and New York. Vinyl and sleeve both look mint.
