Produced by Chips Moman — one of the most significant figures in American roots recording, founder of American Sound Studio in Memphis (where he produced the From Elvis in Memphis sessions and Dusty Springfield’s Son of a Preacher Man recording), and here working out of his own Moman’s Recording Studio in Atlanta. Moman produced, engineered, played guitar, and sang backing vocals — the full creative investment that defines his studio approach. The session band is drawn from the same Memphis/American Sound community he built over two decades: Reggie Young on guitar — one of the most recorded session guitarists in history, whose credits include Elvis Presley, Dionne Warwick, and hundreds of Memphis soul and country sessions; Gene Chrisman on drums — another American Sound core member; Bobby Wood and Bobby Emmons on keyboards; Mike Leech on bass (also arranging the strings); James B. Cobb Jr. on guitar and backing vocals (co-writer, with Emmons, of Traces); and Toni Wine on backing vocals — co-writer of Candida and A Groovy Kind Of Love. Horns by Wayne Jackson on trumpet (of the Memphis Horns). Mickey Raphael, Nelson’s longtime harmonica player, appears here on harp. Mastered by Denny Purcell at Woodland Sound Facilities, Nashville. The title track is a cover of Steve Goodman’s classic train song; the album surveys interpreted standards and country-pop classics including She’s Out Of My Life, Wind Beneath My Wings, and Please Come To Boston. Canadian Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Don Mills, Ontario pressing — lacquer cut, mastered, and pressed entirely at Don Mills; printed by Shorewood Packaging Corp. of Canada (bilingual, SPC logo on spine).
